Overwatch 2 Ping Test

Overwatch 2 runs its servers at a high ~63 Hz update rate and resolves fights with 'favor the shooter' netcode: if a shot connected on the attacker's screen, it counts. That philosophy keeps hitscan duels feeling crisp at moderate ping — and it's also why you get hooked by Roadhog after reaching cover. This test measures your latency to the regions nearest Blizzard's Americas, Europe, and Asia server clusters.

Lower = better. The number is the real HTTPS round-trip from your browser to that region; your in-game ping will read a bit lower.

What counts as good ping in Overwatch 2?

PingVerdictWhat it feels like
Under 30 msDive-readyTracer blinks and Genji dashes create their full intended pressure. Defensive cooldowns respond in time.
30–55 msComfortableThe standard competitive experience. Hitscan feels perfect; only elite dive players notice the difference.
55–90 msPick sturdier heroesYour shots still land (thanks, favor-the-shooter) but you'll get hooked and slept around corners. Mobility heroes lose their edge.
Over 90 msOff-regionYou're likely playing outside your cluster — probably a cross-region group. Expect to feel one step behind every fight.

What favor-the-shooter means for your ping

Overwatch's netcode extends lag compensation generously to attackers, so your Cassidy shots land where you aimed even at 70 ms. The bill arrives on defense: dodges, Matrix, Suzu, and corner-peeks are all evaluated against where the enemy's (past) screen said you were. The higher your ping, the more often you die or eat cooldowns during actions you'd already completed locally.

This cuts hero-specifically. Dive and mobility heroes — Tracer, Genji, Sombra — depend on the gap between their movement and the enemy's reaction, and every millisecond of your latency shrinks that gap. Anchor tanks and poke heroes feel high ping far less.

Blizzard's regions and cross-region grouping

Overwatch 2 automatically routes you to your nearest cluster in the Americas, Europe, or Asia — there's no manual server picker. The main way players end up off-region is grouping: queue with a friend abroad and the match lands somewhere between you, often on their side. Before blaming Blizzard for a laggy night, check whether your own regional baseline (below) is the problem, or the group leader's geography.

You can verify in-game with the network graph (Options → Video → Details, or Ctrl+Shift+N) which shows live RTT to the current server — compare it against your result here for the matching region.

How we measure this

Browsers can't send the ICMP or UDP packets games use, so this tool measures the warm HTTPS round-trip time from your device to the cloud region closest to each of Overwatch 2's server locations — a reliable proxy for the latency you'll experience, not a direct ping to Overwatch 2's game servers. We warm up each connection first so TCP/TLS handshakes aren't counted, then keep the best of several samples. Absolute values can read slightly higher than in-game ping; the ranking of regions from fastest to slowest is what you should rely on.

Overwatch 2 ping FAQ

Why do I get hooked behind walls in Overwatch 2?

Favor-the-shooter netcode. The Roadhog's client saw you in the open, the server honors the shooter's view, and your extra latency widens the window in which that stale view can kill you. It happens to everyone occasionally; if it happens constantly, your ping or jitter is high — compare regions with this test and check the in-game network graph.

Which heroes suffer most on high ping?

Heroes whose value lives in reaction windows: Tracer (blink-dodging), Genji (Deflect timing), Doomfist (punch confirms), Kiriko (Suzu saves), and D.Va (Matrix-eating key shots). Hitscan poke like Ashe or Soldier and anchor tanks like Orisa lose comparatively little, making them sensible picks when you're stuck above 70 ms.

Is this my real Overwatch server ping?

It's a proxy, stated plainly: we measure HTTPS round-trip time to the cloud regions nearest Blizzard's server clusters, because browsers can't ping Blizzard's game servers directly. The relative ranking — which cluster is closest to you — is reliable, and you can validate the absolute number in a real match with Overwatch's built-in network graph.

Does grouping with overseas friends raise my ping?

Yes — that's the most common cause of a sudden 120 ms night. Matches for cross-region groups are hosted where the matchmaker can serve the whole group, which usually means someone plays far from home. Decide who eats the latency before queueing: the player on the more latency-tolerant hero pool should volunteer.
