The catch is that this system is symmetrical, and the target pays the bill. If your own ping is high, everyone else's client is working from an older picture of where you are. You can juke behind a wall on your own screen, feel completely safe, and still die — because the shot that killed you was validated against a position you occupied a moment ago, before you ducked.   1. Switch to Ethernet. Wi-Fi is the single biggest source of jitter and packet loss for most players. A wired connection removes an entire layer of variability before you touch anything else.
  2. Close background bandwidth users. Game updates, cloud backups, streaming on another device, or a roommate's download can all spike your latency mid-match. Pause them before you queue.
  3. Set up Quality of Service (QoS) on your router. Most modern routers let you prioritize traffic from your gaming PC or console. This keeps Overwatch 2 packets moving even when something else on the network gets busy.
  4. Check the high-bandwidth network option. Overwatch 2's gameplay settings include a toggle that sends and receives network updates more frequently. Hitscan hits are resolved instantly against a rewound snapshot, so high ping directly changes whether a shot that looked correct on your screen actually counts — that is the pure favor-the-shooter effect described above.

Projectiles work differently. A grenade, arrow, or rocket already travels through the world with real travel time, so players using projectile heroes are used to leading their shots and accounting for delay as part of normal aiming.
