Privacy Policy

The short version

CheckPing has no accounts, no sign-up, and no login. We never ask for your name, email address, or payment details, and we do not sell anything. The latency test itself runs in your browser and its results are not stored on our servers.

That said, this site is not invisible. It is advertising-supported and we use analytics to understand how people use it, which means third-party services do receive data about your visit. This page names every one of them and explains what you can do about it. If you only read one other section, read Third-party services below.

What the ping test does with your data

When you run a test, your browser makes small HTTPS requests to cloud endpoints around the world and times how long each round trip takes. Those endpoints see what any web server sees when you visit it: your IP address, the approximate time of the request, and your browser's user agent. That is unavoidable — it is how internet requests work.

The measurements themselves — your ping, jitter, packet loss, and quality score — are calculated in your browser and displayed to you. We do not write them to a database, we do not associate them with you, and we cannot look up your past results.

Because the test is browser-based it cannot send ICMP packets or a game's own network traffic. There is a fuller explanation of what that means for accuracy in our FAQ and in ICMP vs HTTP ping.

Third-party services

These are the external services that receive data when you use CheckPing. Each one has its own privacy policy, which governs what it does with that data.

Google AdSense

We display ads through Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites, and to measure ad performance. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to our site and other sites on the internet.

You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. For opting out of third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising more broadly, see aboutads.info/choices and youronlinechoices.com. Google's own policy is at policies.google.com/technologies/ads.

Visitors in regions covered by the GDPR or similar consent laws are shown Google's consent interface before personalised ads are served, and their choice is respected.

Microsoft Clarity

We use Microsoft Clarity to understand how the site is actually used. Clarity captures behavioural metrics, heatmaps, and session recordings — a reconstruction of mouse movement, scrolling, and clicks during your visit. Clarity is configured to mask text input by default, and we do not collect form data because the site has no forms that ask for personal information. Microsoft's privacy statement is at privacy.microsoft.com/privacystatement. We name this explicitly because "we use analytics" understates what session recording is.

Cloudflare

The latency test measures round-trip time to endpoints on Cloudflare's global network. Those requests are visible to Cloudflare as ordinary web traffic. See cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.

Vercel

This site is hosted on Vercel, which keeps standard server logs (including IP addresses) for operational and security purposes. See vercel.com/legal/privacy-policy.

Cookies

CheckPing sets one first-party preference in your browser's local storage: your choice of light or dark theme. It is stored on your device, it is not sent to us, and clearing your browser data removes it.

Every other cookie on this site is set by the third parties above — primarily Google for advertising and Microsoft for analytics. You can block or delete cookies through your browser's settings. Doing so does not break the ping test; it will only affect ad relevance and our analytics.

Your rights

If you are in the European Economic Area or the UK, the GDPR gives you the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of your personal data, and to object to processing or withdraw consent. Because we hold no account data, most requests of this kind need to go to the third party that actually holds the data — Google or Microsoft — and their policies above explain how. For anything we do control, contact us and we will act on it.

If you are a California resident, the CCPA/CPRA gives you the right to know what personal information is collected and to request its deletion, and the right to opt out of its sale or sharing. We do not sell personal information. Advertising cookies may constitute "sharing" under California law; the Google opt-out links above are the effective way to stop it.

Children. This site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Data retention

We retain no test results and no personal data of our own. Retention periods for advertising and analytics data are set by Google and Microsoft under their own policies.

Changes to this policy

If we add a service that touches visitor data, this page gets updated before it goes live and the date at the top changes. There is no version history worth keeping yet; if that changes we will publish one.
