Final Fantasy XIV puts your character on a specific World, and that World sits inside a data center in one physical place — North America, Europe, Japan, or Oceania. Whichever one you picked when you made the character is the one you play from, session after session. This test measures your round-trip time to the cloud regions closest to those data centers, so you can see what your Home World is really costing you.
Lower = better. The number is the real HTTPS round-trip from your browser to that region; your in-game ping will read a bit lower.

Worlds, data centers, and why your Home World sets your ping
Square Enix stacks FFXIV's population in three layers. Individual Worlds — Gilgamesh, Cerberus, Ravana — are grouped into data centers such as Aether, Chaos, or Elemental, and those data centers physically live in one region each: North America, Europe, Japan, or Oceania. Your character belongs to a Home World, and that World's building is the endpoint every packet you send has to reach. No graphics setting, client option, or in-game menu changes that address.
That is why FFXIV latency conversations sound different from shooter ones. There is no server browser and no per-match region pick; the decision was made once, often years ago, by a player who joined a data center because friends or a Free Company were already there. Run the test below and compare the region nearest your data center against the one nearest you. If the gap is 100 ms or more, you are paying that tax on every dungeon, every raid, and every fishing trip, permanently.
What Data Center Travel and World Visit actually change
Data Center Travel lets you send your character to another data center to play with friends or shop a different market board, and World Visit moves you between Worlds inside your own data center. Both are genuinely useful features, and neither one moves your character's home. While you are travelling you connect to whichever data center you visited, so a European player spending an evening on a North American one is playing at North American latency for as long as they stay there.
World Visit is the cheaper move in latency terms: every World in a data center shares the same hosting, so hopping between Worlds inside Aether or Light barely changes your round-trip time. The honest fix for someone who permanently plays from the wrong side of an ocean is neither feature — it is a paid Home World transfer to a data center in the region this test ranks fastest for you. It costs money and it has real consequences for retainers and housing, but it is the only change that lowers your ping every day.
Global cooldowns, oGCD weaving, and where ping still bites
FFXIV's combat is built on a global cooldown of roughly two and a half seconds, and that architecture forgives latency in a way no shooter can. Your actions queue, the server resolves them in order, and nobody gets peeker's advantage on a boss. A player at 150 ms can clear most content, level every job, and enjoy the story without ever feeling cheated — which is exactly why the game supports a worldwide audience from four physical regions instead of dozens.
The tolerance runs out at the top end. Weaving off-global-cooldown abilities into the gaps between GCDs is a timing exercise measured in fractions of a second, and high latency shrinks that window until double weaves start clipping your next GCD. Savage and Ultimate raiding also asks you to react to telegraphed mechanics near the last moment and to trust that your dodge registered before the snapshot. PvP in Crystalline Conflict and Frontline is the least forgiving mode of all. Below roughly 60 ms none of this is a concern.
How we measure this
Browsers can't send the ICMP or UDP packets games use, so this tool measures the warm HTTPS round-trip time from your device to the cloud region closest to each of Final Fantasy XIV's server locations — a reliable proxy for the latency you'll experience, not a direct ping to Final Fantasy XIV's game servers. We warm up each connection first so TCP/TLS handshakes aren't counted, then keep the best of several samples. Absolute values can read slightly higher than in-game ping; the ranking of regions from fastest to slowest is what you should rely on.

Not exactly, and we would rather say so plainly. A browser cannot speak the game's own protocol, so we measure warm HTTPS round-trip time to the cloud region sitting closest to each FFXIV data center. It is a dependable proxy for the latency you will feel in a duty, not a direct ping to Square Enix's Worlds. Treat the absolute figure as approximate; the ranking of regions from fastest to slowest is the part worth acting on.
Does Data Center Travel lower my ping?
Only while you are travelling, and only if the destination is physically closer to you than your own data center — which is rarely why people travel. Travel connects you to the visited data center, so an Oceanian player visiting Aether in North America will play at North American latency until they return. It is a feature for playing with friends and market boards, not a latency fix.
Is a paid Home World transfer worth it just for latency?
If you have permanently moved continents, yes — it is the only change that lowers your ping every time you log in. Check this test first: transfer to a World inside the data center whose region ranks fastest for you. Weigh it against what you leave behind, because retainers, your housing plot, and Free Company membership are all affected by the move.
What ping do I need for Savage or Ultimate raiding?
Under 60 ms is where double weaving stops being a limiting factor and late-frame dodges register the way your screen shows them. Static groups clear Savage on 80 to 100 ms regularly, but you will clip GCDs more often and want to react a beat earlier to telegraphed mechanics. Ultimate progression is far less painful under 40 ms.
