Is 1 ms Ping Good?

1msExcellent

Excellent — but check what you actually measured

1 ms is excellent — it is roughly the floor for any real network connection. The more useful question is what you pinged. A 1 ms result almost always means the target was inside your own home or your ISP's local network, not a game server.

What 1 ms actually feels like

At 1 ms there is nothing left to feel. Your input reaches the server in less time than a single frame at 240 Hz, so any remaining delay you notice is coming from your display, your peripherals or the game's own tick rate — not from the network.

What produces a 1 ms ping

You normally only see 1 ms against your own router, a device on your LAN, or a cache node your ISP hosts inside its own network. Fibre customers pinging a same-city server can reach 1-3 ms, but a 1 ms result to a distant game server is not physically possible: light itself needs about 1 ms per 200 km of fibre, round trip.

Can you improve it?

Nothing to improve. If you are chasing a lower number than this, you are optimising something the network no longer controls — look at monitor refresh rate, frame pacing and input lag instead.

Questions about 1 ms ping

Is 1 ms ping possible to a game server?

Only if the server is in your own city and your connection is fibre. Physics sets the limit: a round trip of 200 km through fibre already costs about 1 ms before any router touches the packet. A 1 ms reading to a server on another continent means you measured something else.

Why does my in-game ping show higher than 1 ms?

Because the game measures the route to its own server with its own protocol, while a 1 ms result usually came from a local target. The two numbers are measuring different distances.
