Is My Ping Good?
A number on its own does not tell you much. Pick the value your test returned and see what it means in practice: which genres it affects, what usually causes it, and how much of it you can realistically remove.
Excellent
Nothing left to gain — the network is no longer your limiting factor.
Very good
Comfortable for every genre, including competitive shooters.
Good
Fine everywhere, and the point where improvements start to be worth making.
Playable
Playable, but a measurable handicap in fast-paced games.
Poor
Slower genres are fine; anything requiring timing will feel delayed.
Why the same ping is fine in one game and not another
Every genre has a different tolerance. A turn-based game does not care whether your round trip takes 20 ms or 200 ms, while a fighting game running rollback netcode reacts to a few frames of difference. That is why a single "good ping" number is misleading — what matters is the value measured against what you actually play. Each page above breaks the same latency down per genre for that reason.
