Middle Eastern game servers, regional CDN capacity and a growing share of cloud infrastructure for the area operate from there. This test measures the round-trip time from your browser to that region.

A crossroads, not a destination
What makes the Gulf unusual is that an enormous amount of traffic passes through it without stopping. The cables carrying Europe–Asia traffic run through the Red Sea and past the Arabian peninsula, so the region has excellent transit connectivity. Local hosting arrived later, which is why players in the Middle East spent years connecting to European servers instead.
That has changed for the major titles. Riot runs Middle Eastern data centres, PUBG Mobile and Free Fire have strong regional presence, and the queue populations are now large enough to sustain local play. Measuring your Dubai figure against your Frankfurt figure is the quickest way to see how much you gain by staying regional.
Why results vary so much across the region
Within the Gulf states the numbers are tight and predictable. Outside them, they scatter. Egypt's international traffic is concentrated through a small number of routes, Iran's international connectivity is heavily filtered and often takes long detours, and Iraq and Levant routing varies dramatically between providers. Two players a few hundred kilometres apart can easily see a 60 ms difference.
That makes measurement more valuable here than almost anywhere. If your number is far above the table, the cause is usually a routing detour rather than distance — and comparing against the Bahrain and Frankfurt rows will usually reveal whether your traffic is going the long way round.
How this measurement works
A browser cannot send the ICMP packets the ping command uses, or the UDP packets games use. Instead we open a connection to a real endpoint inside the UAE data-centre region, warm it up so the TCP and TLS handshakes are not counted, then keep the best of several samples. The result is a genuine network round trip to Dubai — usually a little higher than a raw ICMP ping, and a close, consistent proxy for the latency a game server in the same city would give you.

Should Middle Eastern players use European or local servers?
Local, when the game offers one and the queue is alive. Compare your UAE row against your Frankfurt row: the gap is typically 60 to 100 ms, which is the difference between winning and losing most duels in a shooter. For slower genres the European pool is perfectly fine and often has more players.
Why is my ping so different from someone in a nearby country?
Middle Eastern international routing is far less uniform than Europe's. Depending on your provider, traffic may go directly, via another Gulf state, or all the way to Europe and back. Distance is a poor predictor here; the route is what matters, and it is why measuring beats estimating.
Does UAE VoIP blocking affect this test?
No. This is a plain HTTPS measurement to a cloud endpoint, which is ordinary web traffic. Restrictions that apply to specific voice or messaging services do not change your latency to a general-purpose data-centre region.
