Ping Test to Australia (Sydney)
Oceania servers means Sydney. Valorant's OCE data centre, CS2's Australian pool, League of Legends OCE and most publisher infrastructure for the region all sit in or around the city. This test measures the round-trip time from your browser to the Sydney region, which is the practical ceiling on how good an Australian server can feel for you.

The tyranny of distance, quantified
Australia's latency story is dominated by two facts: the population is concentrated on the east coast near Sydney, and everything else is very far away. Melbourne, Brisbane and Canberra all get excellent numbers. Perth, on the other side of a continent, pays a real penalty — often more than the distance to New Zealand. Auckland, despite being in a different country, frequently beats Perth.
International routes are where it bites. There is no short path out of Australia; the cables to the US west coast, Singapore and Japan are all thousands of kilometres of subsea fibre. That is why Australian players are stuck choosing between an OCE server with a small population and an overseas server with a big one, and why the OCE ping figure matters so much.
NBN technology types change the answer more than your ISP does
On the NBN, the access technology in your street sets your latency floor before your provider gets a say. Fibre to the premises is clean. Fibre to the node runs a copper tail that adds a few milliseconds and, more importantly, adds jitter. Fixed wireless adds more still, and satellite is in a different category entirely — a geostationary link cannot beat the speed of light to orbit and back regardless of how good the rest of the path is.
So if your Sydney number looks high, identify your connection type first. Changing ISPs will not fix a copper tail, but moving off Wi-Fi, disabling background sync, and testing at a quieter hour will tell you how much of the number is your line and how much is congestion.
How this measurement works
A browser cannot send the ICMP packets the ping command uses, or the UDP packets games use. Instead we open a connection to a real endpoint inside the Sydney data-centre region, warm it up so the TCP and TLS handshakes are not counted, then keep the best of several samples. The result is a genuine network round trip to Sydney — usually a little higher than a raw ICMP ping, and a close, consistent proxy for the latency a game server in the same city would give you.

Should I play on OCE or SEA servers?
It is a trade between ping and queue times. OCE will always give you the better number, but on smaller games the population can be too thin outside peak hours. Run this test, note your Sydney and Singapore figures, and use the gap to decide: if SEA costs you 80 ms or more, it is worth waiting for an OCE lobby in anything competitive.
Why is my Perth ping to Sydney so bad?
Because it is roughly 3,300 km of fibre across the Nullarbor, and there are far fewer route options than along the east coast. Physics sets the floor at around 35 ms round trip and real-world routing adds the rest. It is not your ISP being unreasonable.
Does satellite internet work for gaming in Australia?
Low-earth-orbit services are genuinely usable — expect something in the range this test shows plus a modest orbital penalty, with occasional jitter as satellites hand over. Traditional geostationary satellite is not viable for real-time games; the round trip to orbit alone costs well over 500 ms.
